Distribution & retail phase

This phase involves transporting the finished garment to stores and selling it to customers. Provide information on the sales channels, geographical market, return rates and packaging.

What you need to know

Environmental impact

The environmental footprint of distribution is based on the estimated sales shares in three regions: the country of the central warehouse, within the same continent, and across other continents. Default transport scenarios from the PEFCR, linked to these sales channels, are used to estimate the environmental impact.

These scenarios include estimations of the distances traveled and the mix of transport modes used. The environmental impact of retail is calculated by considering the energy consumption (heating and lighting) in stores and warehouses during the storage period of the garment, based on default storage scenarios per sales channel provided by the PEFCR.

Social impact

The social external cost is calculated based on the indicated retail cost. For retail in Europe, the sector data from Belgium is used as a proxy. Transport is not yet included in the social impact calculation.
